NEW YORK, Sept 20 — Avery Garcia, known online as “Avery the Poke Kid”, has died at the age of 12 after a long battle with pancreatoblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of childhood pancreatic cancer.

Avery built a large following on social media through his love of Pokémon, sharing videos of card openings, collection showcases and updates on his cancer journey. Despite years of surgeries, treatments and hospital stays, he remained an upbeat presence who inspired fellow Pokémon fans around the world.

In the days before his death, supporters helped Avery reach one of his biggest goals by pushing his YouTube channel past 100,000 subscribers, earning him the platform's Silver Play Button.

The young content creator also shared one final Pokémon card pull with his followers, a moment that resonated deeply with fans who had followed his journey and passion for the franchise.

In a statement posted on social media, Avery's parents said he died on September 18, describing how they spent his final moments together as a family, telling him how much he was loved and how proud they were of him.

Tributes have since poured in from across the Pokémon community, with supporters remembering Avery for his courage, positivity and generosity, including his habit of sharing Pokémon cards with other children undergoing treatment.

“Thank you for loving our little boy,” his parents wrote as they thanked supporters worldwide for their prayers and kindness throughout Avery's battle with cancer.
