IDF arrests 18 Israeli rioters suspected of attacking security forces operating in West Bank
The IDF arrested 18 Israeli rioters suspected of assaulting security personnel working to halt construction at an illegal outpost in the West Bank, the military announced on Monday evening.
The construction was taking place within a closed military zone near Salfit, the IDF stated, where “violent and unlawful acts” have repeatedly originated.
Rioters set tires on fire and placed roadblocks on major thoroughfares in the area in an attempt to prevent security forces from reaching the construction site, the IDF said.
Footage shared on social media shows large rocks blocking the roads, as well as furniture being set ablaze.
Several of the roads remained blocked throughout the morning, the IDF noted, causing traffic and disrupting the daily goings-on of both Palestinians and Israelis living in the West Bank.
Weapons, incendiary materials found in seized vehicle
Security forces eventually cleared the obstructions and completed the operation.
According to the IDF, dozens of rioters from the outpost physically and verbally attacked the forces, despite the forces' efforts to avoid confrontation.
During the operation, security forces seized several vehicles, including one in which incendiary materials, weapons, and pepper spray were found.
The 18 suspects have been transferred to the Judea and Samaria District for questioning.
