Confirmed: South Africans to watch MTN8 final on free channel

It has been confirmed that SABC 1 will televise the MTN8 final live from 16:30, ahead of kick-off at 18:00. South Africans can also stream the action on SABC+ or listen to the match on SABC radio stations.

Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns enter this showdown after enjoying solid starts to the 2026/27 season.

MTN8 FINAL: ORLANDO PIRATES VS MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

Sundowns are yet to taste defeat this season after eight league games, recording six wins and two draws. With 20 points at the top of the table, Miguel Cardoso’s side have scored 19 goals while winning all four of their home games.

Meanwhile, Pirates, who sit in second place, are also unbeaten this season. The Betway Premiership champions have won six games and drawn one, with 19 points on the board. Their defence has been outstanding, conceding just one goal while scoring 16.

Just one point separates the two sides at the top of the table, setting the stage for a fiercely contested MTN8 final. Both clubs are looking to claim the trophy and gain bragging rights over their closest domestic rivals.

The last meeting between Pirates and Sundowns took place on 18 February 2026 in a Betway Premiership clash at FNB Stadium, where Sundowns claimed a 2-1 victory. The Brazilians took control in the first half, with forward Brayan León scoring twice in the 37th and 41st minutes.

Pirates responded immediately after the break, with Patrick Maswanganyi finding the net in the 47th minute to reduce the deficit. However, Sundowns held firm under pressure in the second half to secure all three points.
