Oklahoma stuns No. 1 Texas with Tate Sandell field goal on final play
Arch Manning tossed two interceptions in the fourth quarter and No. 1 Texas lost 27-24 to Oklahoma in a shocking result from a rivalry known for the unexpected.
The Longhorns led 17-7 at halftime. Texas managed 382 yards of offense but were inept on third down and unable to consistently run the ball.

Manning completed 19 of 31 attempts for 260 yards and three scores. Yet his turnovers were the difference in a loss that destroys all the credibility Texas built from last month's win against Ohio State.

Oklahoma running back Lloyd Avant (9) runs against Texas during the second half at Cotton Bowl.
With 10:21 to play and the Longhorns facing second-and-13 from their 20-yard line, Manning took a shotgun snap and was flushed out of the pocket. Rolling to his right, he uncorked a fluttering pass that sailed over his intended target that was intercepted by Peyton Bowen returned 42 yards for a touchdown.
Trailing for the first time, the Longhorns responded with a 75-yard scoring drive capped by a 14-yard Manning touchdown pass to Jermaine Bishop that evened the score at 24-24 midway through the final quarter.

Texas missed a 52-yard field goal with 1:55 remaining. After getting the ball back with under a minute to go, Manning was intercepted again on a careless throw to the right side that was grabbed by Cortland Guillory. That set up Oklahoma up near midfield with 19 seconds to play.
After a 20-yard completion to Isaiah Satenga from quarterback John Mateer, who had 155 yards and did not turn the ball over, kicker Tate Sandell made a 47-yard field goal as time expired.
In the end, Oklahoma delivered the key plays down the stretch in the fourth quarter to salvage what was increasingly looking like a lost season.
Now 3-2, the Sooners are a long shot for the College Football Playoff but could still make a run at eight or nine wins and a national ranking. Importantly, the win overwrites what had been a dreadful first month and gets Oklahoma back on track to at least approach preseason expectations.

Texas has looked the part of the nation's best team for all of one quarter: the fourth quarter against Ohio State in Week 2 that put the Longhorns atop the US LBM Coaches Poll. Otherwise, this has been an unimpressive team with a strong résumé. That leaves the Longhorns in good shape to build a playoff case.
But there is something clearly wrong with a team that has played down to Oklahoma and No. 14 Tennessee. Last time, Texas escaped the Volunteers with a 20-17 win thanks to five sacks by Colin Simmons.
Manning is the face of the Longhorns' issues. Hyped and overhyped for years, he has played like a slightly above-average SEC starter who likely would've had much less job security if not for his recruiting billing and last name.
