Fourth couple voted off Strictly as show reveals Halloween twist

The duo lost the dance-off to actress Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu, who ended up in the bottom two after the public vote despite picking up 25 points on Saturday’s show.

Sunday’s results episode also brought news of a surprise twist, with Strictly set to hold its first triple dance-off during next week’s Halloween special.

The three couples with the lowest combined judges’ scores and public votes will dance again next week, before the judges will eliminate one pair.

The BBC series will return to a two-couple dance-off for the rest of the series.

Shaun Wright-Phillips and dance partner Alexis Warr became the latest to be voted off Strictly

The results show saw Wright-Phillips – who played for London clubs Chelsea and QPR – and Warr reprise their jive to Faith by Stevie Wonder featuring Ariana Grande and Winstone and Gu perform their foxtrot to Man I Need by Olivia Dean again.

Judges Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse voted to save Gu and Winstone, but head judge Shirley Ballas voted for Wright-Phillips and Warr, leaving Du Beke, who had this week’s casting vote, to decide who remained on the show.

The pair ended up in the dance-off despite finishing above former Love Island star Cach Mercer and his professional partner Maddie Ingoldsby, who scored 24, and Emmerdale star Lawrence Robb and Jowita Przystal, who scored just 19 on Saturday.

Robb and Przystal’s performance was singled out for criticism from Revel Horwood on Saturday, who said the soap star was “flat-footed and out of time”.

This week’s live show also saw Australian singer Delta Goodrem return from her rib injury to score the first 10 of the series with her rumba to Celine Dion’s It’s All Coming Back To Me Now with professional partner Kai Widdrington, which scored 34.

Winter Olympic champion Tabby Stoecker topped the leaderboard on Saturday, following Goodrem by scoring two 10s for her couple’s choice dance to Stupid Song by Olivia Rodrigo, finishing with a total score of 37, the highest of the series so far.

Her performance with professional partner Mark Karmalita was dedicated to her late father and she appeared emotional after the dance, with judge Shirley Ballas praising her as a “beautiful dancer” and calling the performance “absolutely exquisite”.

The results show also saw Spice Girls star Melanie C join the Strictly professional dancers for a fitness-inspired group dance.

The remaining couples will return to the dancefloor next week at 6.30pm on BBC One on Saturday, October 31, for Strictly’s Halloween special.
