PTPTN targets stronger Simpan SSPN savings

SHAH ALAM: The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) aims to collect RM250 million in deposits throughout its Simpan SSPN Savings Month (BMS) 2026 campaign.

PTPTN chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim said the target was set based on the amount of Simpan SSPN deposits received up to Aug 31.

She said this year's Simpan SSPN deposits had reached RM25.86 billion within the period, with 7.66 million accounts opened.

"Saving is not merely about setting aside money for future use, but is also a form of preparation that gives families more options and flexibility to plan their children's education journey," she said.

She was officiating at the launch of BMS 2026 in Central i-City Mall here last Saturday.

Norliza said the BMS campaign, now in its ninth year, also serves as a platform to encourage parents to plan for their children's higher education.

She said the initiative could indirectly help reduce reliance on education loans.

BMS 2026, which runs from Sept 25 to Nov 1, will coincide with World Savings Day on Oct 31.

This year's programme is themed "Under The Sea", with the tagline Jom Jadi Superhero Anak Anda (Be a superhero to your child).

The theme highlights the importance of financial planning in preparing for our children's higher education.

Various campaigns and promotions have been held throughout the year to encourage the public to enrol in Simpan SSPN, including the Cabutan WOW! Simpan SSPN 2026 and the Cabutan Simpan SSPN Baru Slay!

The prizes for the latest draws were presented to the winners during the event.

Cabutan WOW! Simpan SSPN 2026 Plus Series 2 winner Norainin Basir, 44, was represented by her husband, Md Doli Mohd Nor, 66.

He took home RM20,000 and described the win as an important opportunity for the future of their three children.

The father-of-three decided to start saving for all his children after consulting a PTPTN representative.

He said financial planning is important, especially for households with limited resources.

"I call on all parents to start saving for their children to safeguard their future," he said.

Say Han Cheong, 56, who received RM10,000 for being one of three runners-up, said Simpan SSPN has given him an opportunity to save for an important purpose.

Siti Aishah Mohd Noh, 28, the Cabutan Simpan SSPN Baru Slay! Slay 2 Category grand prize winner, took home a Yamaha NVX 155 motorcycle.

The housewife from Tangkak, Johor, has opened Simpan SSPN accounts for her two children and is also a former PTPTN study loan beneficiary.

She said her experience has prompted her to plan for her children's education as early as possible.

BMS 2026 also features various activities for parents and children, including a colouring competition, the Simpan SSPN Got Talent showcase, a fancy dress competition, Simpan SSPN Action Song competition, Happy Hour and the PTPTN ESports Challenge.

The programme also gives the public an opportunity to meet PTPTN representatives to obtain information on Simpan SSPN products and their benefits.

PTPTN said efforts to raise awareness about the importance of saving in Simpan SSPN would continue to help families prepare financially for their children's higher education.

It also encouraged parents and guardians to make use of Simpan SSPN their family financial planning tool.

Simpan SSPN offers various benefits to depositors, with income tax relief on savings of up to RM8,000 a year being the most popular.

Others include free takaful protection and a matching grant of up to RM10,000 for eligible families.

The savings scheme also offers competitive dividends, besides being syariah-compliant and is guaranteed by the government.
