Indonesia records 40.36 percent surge in digital payment transactions

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia recorded 6.11 billion digital payment transactions in August 2026, marking a 40.36 percent year-on-year surge, according to Bank Indonesia (BI).
"The volume of digital payment transactions reached 6.11 billion—growing 40.36 percent yoy in August 2026—supported by the expansion of digital payment acceptance," BI Governor Destry Damayanti stated following the central bank's board of governors meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Destry explained that the sustained growth in digital economic and financial transactions was supported by a secure, smooth, and reliable national payment system infrastructure.
Breakdowns of the payment platforms showed internet banking volume growing by 15.12 percent yoy, while mobile banking expanded by 47.08 percent yoy.
Transactions using the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) maintained high growth at 67.22 percent yoy, propelled by an expanding network of users and merchant outlets.
In terms of infrastructure performance, retail transactions processed through BI-FAST reached 549 million, reflecting a 37.72 percent yoy increase with total transaction value reaching Rp1,346 trillion (approximately US$75.62 billion).
Meanwhile, wholesale settlements via BI-RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) totaled Rp16,545 trillion (US$929.49 billion), a slight drop of 3.64 percent yoy, across 0.86 million transactions.
On physical currency management, currency in circulation grew by 12.88 percent yoy to Rp1,332 trillion (US$74.83 billion).
"Bank Indonesia continues to ensure the availability of rupiah currency in sufficient quantities and fit-for-circulation quality across the entire Indonesian territory, including in frontier, outermost and underdeveloped areas," Destry stated.
