Indonesian furniture recorded Rp39.7 billion in potential India sales

..Indonesian furniture products are recognized in India for their superior craftsmanship and natural aesthetic appeal.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Trade Ministry reported that Indonesian furniture products generated potential transactions worth Rp39.7 billion (US$2.26 million) at the INDEXPLUS 2026 exhibition in New Delhi, India.
Fajarini Puntodewi, an official of the ministry, stated that the ministry is encouraging Indonesian businesses to consider India as a promising export market for furniture.
"The Trade Ministry encourages Indonesian furniture businesses, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), to study consumer trends in India and further ramp up exports," Puntodewi said in Jakarta on Friday.
Puntodewi noted that the growing export opportunities for Indonesian furniture in India align with shifting preferences among urban Indian customers.
In various major cities such as Mumbai, the Delhi National Capital Region, and Bengaluru, consumer tastes are shifting from traditional-style furniture toward minimalist-modern or Scandinavian-industrial designs.
For this exhibition, Indonesia involved four business showcasing products that blend contemporary design, skilled craftsmanship, and premium materials with Indonesia's rich cultural heritage.
The realized and potential transactions were supported by proactive business matching facilitated by the Indonesia Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) in Chennai, both before and after the exhibition.
Amesta Yisca Putri, Head of ITPC Chennai, conveyed the commitment of Indonesian trade representatives in India to capitalize on every available export opportunity, including through business matching facilitation.
"We actively facilitate direct business matching between Indonesian businesses and potential buyers in India. This allows us to ensure that potential collaborations materialize into concrete transactions," Putri said.
Putri added that Indonesian furniture products are recognized in India for their superior craftsmanship and natural aesthetic appeal.
Indonesian businesses' compliance with product legality and sustainability standards, demonstrated through the Timber Legality and Sustainability Verification System (SVLK) certification, adds value and instills confidence among trading partners in India.
Beyond offering products that align with market preferences, Indonesian businesses must also consider competitiveness and the trade regulations applicable in India.
One of them is to leverage the ASEAN-India Free Trade Area (AIFTA) scheme, which provides tariff advantages for Indonesian products under prevailing rules.
Exporters must also pay attention to technical requirements mandated by the Indian government through the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
The Indian government has implemented the Furniture (Quality Control) Order 2025 for a range of furniture products, including office chairs, public seating (chairs and benches), tables and work desks, storage units, beds, and bunk beds.
