Anime Studio Felix Film Edits Job Listing That Encouraged Generative AI

On Saturday, Japanese animation studio Felix Film edited its animator job listing for new graduates over the use of generative AI technology. The listing's first requirement states applicants should apply if they wish to become episode directors, key animation directors, character designers, or concept designers. The second requirement now asks for applicants who wish to use tools such a Blender and other 3D CG tools to streamline and expand the scope of artistic expressions in key animation, and adds that the company is "studying how AI technology can be used as one of the technologies to support the work of creators in the studio."
Before Saturday, the job listing's second requirement originally stated Felix Film is looking for applicants who “can create illustrations using Blender or image generative AI.” Felix Film's website posted the original listing between December 2024 and February 2026. The listing is for applicants who are graduating from school next spring.
Felix Film explained its intent for using generative AI technology within the company in a statement posted on Saturday. The studio said, “At this point, our company has not decided to implement generative AI for images in the studio, but we are studying its potential future use.” It emphasized twice in its statement that it wants to use the technology to support its creative talent, not replace them.
Felix Film also said that it plans on taking into consideration how copyrighted material will be used for any generative AI systems it uses. “If we implement generative AI technology in the future, we will carefully consider the elements of the services and techniques used, the rights issues, and the effects on the studio,” Felix Film wrote.
Felix Film's has provided 3D animation and animation production for Aharen-san wa Hakarenai; production assistance for Eiga Precure All Stars F; second key animation, animation production collaboration, and in-between animation for I want to eat your pancreas; and animation production, CG animation production, and in-between animation for several episodes for MF Ghost, among other works.
