Kit Harington reveals hopes to reprise Jon Snow role after previous Game of Thrones spin-off sequel plans scrapped

Kit Harington has said he’d still be open to the idea of doing a Game of Thrones spin-off series following Jon Snow.

It was reported back in 2022 that a spin-off show set after the events of the original series and following Snow as he lived in exile beyond the Wall was in development, but Harington revealed in 2024 that the project had been shelved.

Now, speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor confirmed that they’d worked on the project for years before abandoning it, while also admitting that he was the person most responsible for the decision.

"We developed it two years or so," Harington said. "I still think there's a world in which something could work. I wouldn't have gone into it in the first place if I didn't. But I was very insistent at the start — as was HBO and George RR Martin — of like: 'If we don't find the right thing, let's not do it. It's much better if we don't.'"

He continued: "After a little while of of thinking about it – it kind of was me – [I said], 'This isn't quite the right [story].'"

He added: “[But] now I’ve gone and done all these other things and now I feel more comfortable with that character and that world again and where it sits in my life.”

Harington previously ruled out the possibility of reprising his role as the Game of Thrones warrior.

When speaking to Variety about his voice role as Gilderoy Lockhart in the Harry Potter audiobook series back in December 2025, the actor was asked whether he’d ever voice Jon Snow in a similar project, to which he responded: “No, god no. I don’t wanna go anywhere near it.”

He continued: “I spent 10 years doing that. Thanks, I’m alright."

Luckily for fans of the series, they can return to Westeros in the upcoming fourth season of House of the Dragon, as well as the upcoming second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
