Rusev's way back onto Raw might come with a built-in crew. Self-Made Pro says WWE wants him, Ethan Page and Big Cass in a formal stable the second he returns, and he said it plainly on the Self-Made Session podcast: “I can also tell you that you expect Rusev, Ethan Page, and Big Cass to be a formal stable immediately.” However, nothing has been confirmed or announced by WWE. The idea makes sense when you look at how Raw got here.
WWE reportedly wants Rusev, Ethan Page, and Big Cass together in a new stable
Page and Rusev were already a tag team, and they won their first match together on May 4 against Je'Von Evans and Penta. They were still running it in July, facing Chad Gable and Penta. Then Rusev got hurt, and Page needed a partner.
Cass filled that spot. He came back on the August 3 Raw, right after Evans beat Page, and flattened Evans with a big boot. It was his first WWE appearance since 2018. In between he worked for TNA and AEW, where he was Big Bill.
He and Page have been a unit since, and on October 19 they jumped Gable, Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee after an Intercontinental Title triple threat.
Then came the October 26 Raw, where they beat Gable, the Intercontinental Champion, and Dragon Lee when Page hit the Ego Plex on Lee. Bring Rusev in and that duo becomes three, and the report points to a heel faction, not just another tag team.
Rusev has returned to the ring after spending nearly three months away with an injury
Rusev's absence is the part that worried people. His last TV match was July 27 against Evans at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
He reportedly landed awkwardly on his neck and his hands went numb, and Cultaholic reported he could be heard saying “My hand went numb” as he rolled out of the ring.
He finished the match, but he stayed off television for almost three months. CJ Perry, his wife, formerly Lana in WWE, later talked about the pain he'd been dealing with, and in September she confirmed he'd been cleared.
His neck history explains some of the fuss. Cultaholic noted he broke it in 2012, which left him with temporary paralysis in his arms.
He was back in the ring for WWE live events in Honolulu, Hawaii, on October 16 and 17. He wrestled Joe Henry in singles the first night, then teamed with Page the next evening. He lost both, but they were his first matches since the injury.
There's still no date for his return to Raw, and that's the piece the stable plans hang on.
