Michael Carrick reacts to Man United's recent form after the Fulham game

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has insisted that he remains positive about his team despite their difficult run of results following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Fulham.

United avoided a third consecutive defeat at Craven Cottage after Matheus Cunha’s 89th-minute effort took a heavy deflection and rescued a point for Carrick’s side. The result came after defeats to Manchester City and Brighton, leaving United with just five points from their opening five Premier League matches.

Despite the disappointing results, Carrick rejected suggestions that his players lacked fitness or effort. The United boss pointed to the way his team responded after falling behind and praised their persistence in searching for an equaliser.

He said,

“I am happy with the energy we show today. I think we can take a lot from today. I think we can learn a lot as well. We can be better at certain things; that is pretty clear, but there were some good signs. The noise? No, what bothers me is that we want better results”

Carrick also addressed the frustration among supporters after some United fans booed his decision to substitute Kobbie Mainoo in the second half. He said he understood the reaction given the circumstances and insisted he did not take it personally.

He continued,

“We don't think things are perfect by any means. We need to win football matches. The supporters were top-drawer again today, and we have to give them something to keep shouting about”.

The draw leaves Carrick with plenty to address during the international break, particularly United's inconsistency and their inability to turn periods of pressure into goals. However, the manager remains focused on using the coming weeks to improve the team's performances and results.
