ETS, KTM Komuter services face disruption after suspected animal contact damages power line

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — ETS and KTM Komuter services were disrupted this morning after a 25kV overhead power line between Batang Benar and Labu was severed, with KTMB saying an animal may have triggered the incident.

In a statement today, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) said the disruption began at 6.24am at KM434.423, affecting power supply and forcing some trains to be delayed or terminate their journeys early while inspections and repairs were carried out.

Preliminary checks found that the incident was suspected to have been caused by an animal coming into contact with both a live wire and an earth wire, causing an electrical fault.

For ETS services, the JB Sentral-KL Sentral EP9532 service will terminate at Seremban, with buses taking passengers onwards, while passengers on the KL Sentral-JB Sentral EP9523 service will be transferred by bus to Seremban before continuing their journey by train. Shuttle buses are being provided from KL Sentral, Bandar Tasik Selatan and Kajang. 

Several KTM Komuter services on the Batu Caves-Pulau Sebang route were also affected, including trains terminating at Seremban or Labu, while additional commuter sets were deployed to Kajang and Bangi to carry passengers towards Batu Caves.  

KTMB said passengers who decide not to continue their journey because of the disruption are eligible for a full fare refund, subject to existing procedures.  

“Technical teams are actively carrying out inspection and restoration works at the site to allow train services to resume normal operations as soon as possible,” KTMB said, adding that repairs were estimated to take about three hours.
