Coronation Street reveals chaotic proposal drama for Adam Barlow

Coronation Street's former womaniser Adam Barlow makes a major commitment next week as he decides to pop the question to girlfriend Alya Nazir.

However, disaster strikes when hotel boss Debbie Webster completely scuppers Adam's grand plan. The ring gets stolen – and it's all her fault…

"Adam is livid at Debbie," explains our Corrie source. "His empathy for Debbie's dementia only goes so far.

"He had huge plans for a big surprise at Chariot Square and Debbie spoils the moment – prompting Adam to declare that if Debbie can't do her job, she should quit!"

Debbie's problems begin when ex-con Paula returns to the hotel and tries to apologise for kicking off on her last visit. Debbie refuses her apology and gives Paula the cold shoulder, but this rift soon causes a bigger problem…

When Adam arrives and goes over the details of his romantic proposal plan to Debbie, Paula listens in with interest. As soon as Adam leaves, Paula manipulates Debbie's confusion and convinces her that she's staying in room 108. But when Debbie hands over the key, she forgets that room 108 is in fact Adam's!

"It's a major slip-up from Debbie, and Paula takes full advantage," shares our insider. "Debbie's dementia is making work trickier, but she's already handed over some responsibilities. This is going to set her back and make her feel like she's losing a huge part of herself."

Blissfully unaware of the chaos that awaits, Adam excitedly leads Alya into the hotel room where he intends to propose. But his mood quickly sours when he realises the engagement ring is missing.

Furious Adam lashes out at Debbie for ruining his proposal, and it slowly dawns on her that she gave sticky-fingered Paula the key to his room! Will she be able to retrieve it?

"Debbie meets up with her former prison foe and demands the gem back," explains our insider. "Debbie still has the gift of the gab, and whatever she says convinces Paula to hand it over. Adam's engagement is saved!"

Full of apologies, Debbie returns the ring to Adam and Alya and hopes she hasn't ruined the proposal for good.

Despite having had his grand gesture spoiled, Adam decides there's no time to waste and proposes to his girlfriend in front of the whole pub. And with the locals dressed up in their Halloween costumes, they celebrate the happy couple as Alya agrees to marry him!

Although Debbie salvaged the proposal by retrieving the ring, will the guilt of Paula's manipulation play on her mind? And will the incident force her to hand over the reins of the hotel completely?
