Sebastian Stan Doesn’t Know How ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Turned Out, But Says It’s ‘Probably Heartbreaking’: ‘We’ll See Who Makes It’

Sebastian Stan, who suited back up as the Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes, for the forthcoming “Avengers: Doomsday,” recently revealed he hasn’t actually seen the movie yet — but expects it to be “heartbreaking.”

“I haven’t seen the movie, and I don’t know how it turned out,” the actor admitted while speaking with Decider. “I’m sure it’s going to be probably heartbreaking, in a lot of ways. We’ll see who makes it to the next level.”

Stan did say he got to “reunite with everyone” on set, adding, “It was very nostalgic to look back and think about all of these years that we’ve known each other and grew up together. It’s incredible in that way,” he said. “It’s been a family, and it never stops being that way.”

While fans have interpreted Stan’s comments as a tip that more than a few of the beloved characters will be killed off in the “Avengers: Endgame” follow-up, the actor is the latest “Doomsday” cast member to confess that they don’t really know what to expect when it comes to the film’s narrative. Recently, Alan Cumming, who will reprise his role as the mutant superhero Nightcrawler, told SiriusXM: “To be honest, I don’t fully understand the plot.” (He first appeared as the character in 2003’s “X2: X-Men United.”) Cumming also noted that most of his scenes were shot “in front of a blue screen.”

Perhaps the confusion stems from the unfinished script the co-directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, shot the film with. “We always view the script as a living organism,” Joe told the Associated Press last month. “We’re improvisation-based, rehearsal-based directors. We like to see what the actors bring to the characters, and sometimes you don’t get the actors until a few days or few weeks before you shoot them. And a lot of the time, that’s when the magic happens.”

Stan first appeared in “Captain America: The First Avenger” in 2011, going on to appear in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and more Marvel films.

“Fjord,” the actor’s latest film, hits theaters Friday. “Avengers: Doomsday” will premiere theatrically on Dec. 18.
