Every Upcoming Josh Brolin Movie & Show, Including Sicario 3

He has written various reviews for ScreenRant that appear on Rotten Tomatoes, coordinated Oscars and San Diego Comic-Con coverage, appeared on CNN to talk about Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, and done select interviews with talent over the years.
Josh Brolin has been acting for decades, and he remains a staple of Hollywood with multiple upcoming movies and shows. The actor broke onto the scene in 1985 by playing Brand in The Goonies, which led to him landing a key role on the 67-episode coming-of-age western, The Young Riders.
But it wasn't until 2007 that Brolin's career truly took off. His role in the Coen Brothers' No Country for Old Men in 2007 brought a string of successes, such as roles in Ridley Scott's American Gangster, playing George W. Bush in Oliver Stone's W., and his Oscar-nominated performance in Milk. It catapulted him to a new level of stardom.
Brolin has since done major franchises, like Men in Black, Dune, and playing Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (a role he could return to). He's also remained a sought-after actor for major genre films. In the last few years alone, he's appeared in Weapons, Wake Up Dead Man, and The Running Man. 2026 has already been a busy year for him between The Dog Stars and Whalefall.
The actor still has more movies and TV shows to come. It's not a robust slate, as Brolin's projects tend not to get stuck in development hell, but it does include some major franchise returns.
3 Dune: Part Three (2026)
The next opportunity to see Brolin comes with Dune: Part Three. The sci-fi trilogy conclusion is directed by Denis Villeneuve. Brolin is reprising his role as Gurney Halleck, the War Master of House Atreides, whom he portrayed previously in Dune and Dune: Part Two.
Details on Gurney's role are not directly confirmed, as he is not featured in the book that the movie is primarily based on. In any case, it will be fantastic to see Brolin back as the commanding war general alongside a star-studded cast featuring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Robert Pattinson, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.
Filming is complete on Dune 3, ahead of its exclusive theatrical release on December 18, 2026, which will include a wide IMAX release. It will likely mark the last time Brolin suits up as Gurney.
2 A Roadmap To Happiness (2027)
Brolin is no stranger to being on TV, having previously led Prime Video's sci-fi western Outer Range and voiced George Washington in the Emmy-nominated series The American Revolution. He's set to return in the TV series A Roadmap to Happiness, which is a documentary show that allows the actor to be himself.
The series follows presenter Darin Olien as he travels the world with various actors as they search for the happiest people on Earth. Brolin is one of many stars confirmed to appear in an episode, with Shailene Woodley, Jason Momoa, Emilia Clarke, Elijah Wood, and Alec Baldwin among the others.
Filming is already complete on A Roadmap to Happiness. Brolin is slated to appear in the series finale for a Finland-set search. The series is targeting a release on March 20, 2027, for World Happiness Day.
1 Sicario 3 (TBD)
A third Sicario movie has been in development for years, with the idea always including Brolin's return as CIA operative Matt Graver. The actor portrayed the character in 2015's Sicario and its sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado. However, the trilogy-ender meant to unite Brolin, Emily Blunt, and Benicio del Toro has struggled to get off the ground.
That has finally changed in 2026, as Sicario 3 was officially confirmed to be on the way. Brolin, Blunt, and del Toro are all set to return for a film directed by The Weight's Padraic McKinley and based on a script by Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight. This contradicts previous reports that Taylor Sheridan wrote Sicario 3's script.
The new sequel does not have a release date confirmed at this point, as it is currently in pre-production. However, Brolin confirmed that Sicario 3 starts filming in 2027, which would make it likely for a 2028 theatrical debut. No matter when it comes or what other projects Josh Brolin adds to his plate, this will remain one of his most exciting upcoming movies.
