The Legend of Zelda is having quite the year already. One of Nintendo's most beloved franchises turned 40 in 2026, and that means we've seen a number of official and fan-made releases throughout the year. Upcoming months will see the release of the Ocarina of Time remake, and The Legend of Zelda live-action movie in 2027. We've also gotten vinyl releases, new action figures, and a Switch 2 and Pro Controller.

Over on the fan side of things, numerous ROMhacks and remasters have appeared online, even more than usual. That's included a nice new coat of paint on Zelda 2, and more than a few renditions of what fans think an Ocarina of Time remake should like look. Nintendo has also added some Zelda games to Nintendo Switch Online, and we all know a new Legend of Zelda game is in the works too. The goods just keep on coming, and now you can play The Legend of Zelda: Temple of Seasons as well.

The game, which is available over on Romhacking.net, is a fan-made endeavor by a user named Jay (Like the Bird, not the Letter). Yes, that whole thing is the username. I'm not the one being clever. Released on August 31, 2026, Temple of Seasons is a ROMhack of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons on the Game Boy. The description reads:

This is a five-dungeon hack featuring Link’s adventures through a fully developed Temple of Seasons. From the depths of Subrosia to the peak of Mount Tetra, our hero must navigate all manner of threats without the help of his trusty sword! Here more than ever, your growing arsenal is necessary for both traversal and combat, and expect a few brand-new items to add a fresh take on navigation even for Oracles veterans.

This is great news because The Legend of Zelda: Temple of Seasons will work for first timers, but it includes enough additional updates and quality-of-life tools improvements that it will also appeal to people who've played Oracle of Seasons before. Even if you've played the original game dozens of times, you might want to check this one out.

While this isn't the Oracles remakes fans have been asking for, The Legend of Zelda: Temple of Seasons still sounds like a good time. It's also worth mentioning that both Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are on Nintendo Switch Online now through its Game Boy library, so if you want to experience the original games, you can do that now.

In the meantime, it's an exciting time for fans of The Legend of Zelda. The Ocarina of Time remake will arrive for Switch on November 5. In the meantime, you can play through the Temple of Seasons ROMhack to ease the waiting.
