CAF Champions League: Second-leg details for Pirates, Sundowns

Translate

What’s next for Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League?

Both PSL teams were in continental action this weekend, but with different outcomes.

Here’s where Pirates and Sundowns stand going into their second legs on Friday.

Orlando Pirates claim late win over African Stars

The PSL champions took 78 minutes to get the job done against African Stars on 17 October.

Their match was played in Gaborone, Botswana, as Namibia has no CAF-approved venues.

Pirates and African Stars looked to be evenly matched, with neither side gaining a clear advantage.

After a goalless first half, Tshepang Moremi finally unlocked the hosts’ defences.

His goal has given Pirates a crucial lead heading into the second leg in Soweto on Friday.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Wiliete SC deadlocked

The MTN8 winners were unable to convert pressure into points against Wiliete SC on 18 October.

Their clash took place at the Ombaka National Stadium in Benguela, Angola.

Brayan Leon, Teboho Mokoena, and Tashreeq Matthews all tested the goalkeeper in the first half, but Elber Binha was unplayable.

In the second half, the best chance came from Iqraam Rayners, whose shot went agonisingly wide.

Sundowns and Wiliete are now even heading into the second leg in Pretoria on Friday.

Coach Miguel Cardoso will also be sweating over Mokoena, who went off injured around the 40-minute mark.
