Warning! SPOILERS ahead about Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 3, episode 2.A very unusual The Big Bang Theory record was unexpectedly ended by Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage season 3, episode 2. First Marriage season 3 starting its 2026-2027 TV cycle on CBS with little to no time passing from the events of season 2’s finale to season 3’s premiere meant Georgie and Mary’s fight and Connor’s arrest would be key storylines at the beginning of the third instalment of the Young Sheldon spinoff. This continued to be the case in Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage season 3, episode 2.
While Georgie’s animosity towards Mary dwindled after accepting he was wrong to use time with CeeCee as a bargaining chip in First Marriage season 3’s premiere, season 3, episode 2 brought their fight back to the forefront by having Georgie witness Fred and Mary’s date. The ordeal went down as well as could be expected, once again highlighting how similar Georgie and Mary are in their absolute conviction of being the only one in the right, but it also indirectly led to an interesting development in Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage season 3, episode 2’s ending.
Despite Mary and Fred’s date going exceptionally badly, to the point that Mary essentially kicked Fred out in a bid not to lose the fight against Georgie, Mary ended up kissing Fagenbacher the next morning. The development comes as a surprise even considering Fred’s own suggestion not to go forward with dating. Their kiss will inevitably worsen the state of Georgie and Mary’s relationship, but it also ended a very unexpected record originally set up by The Big Bang Theory.
Mary Kisses Fagenbacher In Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage Season 3
In the entirety of The Big Bang Theory franchise, Mary has only been seen kissing George Cooper Senior. It’s a particularly odd feat for a franchise that featured Mary at different stages of her life and hinted at her relationships multiple times, even more so as George Sr. was only alive throughout the vast majority of Young Sheldon. This meant that Mary had plenty of onscreen time to be shown in another happy relationship, especially in The Big Bang Theory, whose story unfurled several years after George’s death.
The establishing of such a record also feels particularly absurd in light of how stormy Mary and George Sr.’s relationship had been described in The Big Bang Theory. Young Sheldon eventually dispelled such a notion in its portrayal of a relatively calm Cooper family, and yet, when there were problems between Mary and George Sr., both developed feelings for someone outside their marriage.
Pastor Rob and Mary’s bond quickly became a problem in Young Sheldon, and yet they were never shown kissing. While not as controversial, The Big Bang Theory could have avoided the creation of such a record, as it showed Mary flirting with Caltech physics department head Eric Gablehauser in season 1. Still, despite establishing early on that Mary had never been opposed to dating and even having Sheldon witness Mary hook up with someone she knew through a prayer group during his surprise visit to Texas in season 7, Mary never kissed anybody onscreen in The Big Bang Theory.
What The Big Bang Theory Revealed About Mary's Relationship With Fagenbacher
Mary kissing Fred Fagenbacher thus puts a stop to the bizarre record of only having seen her kissing George Cooper Sr. in all these years. Granted, this doesn’t mean Mary and Fred’s relationship in First Marriage will be happy or last long, but it is a step forward in the portrayal of Mary. After all, even if Mary and Fagenbacher’s relationship isn’t going to last, this development offers a window into Mary’s characterization beyond the role of a devoted mother, which was what her purpose story-wise had always been in The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon.
Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage season 3, episode 2 made it clear that the main drive of Mary’s behavior in relation to Fred was going against Georgie’s preconceptions. Still, Mary and Fagenbacher’s kiss was prompted by her being moved by his kindness in bringing her a hangover breakfast, pointing to her seeing something good in him genuinely.
It’s unlikely that Mary and Fred’s relationship will be a happy and strong one, as Georgie’s unfaltering belief in Fagenbacher’s ill intentions inevitably gets in the way. This is unfortunately confirmed by The Big Bang Theory never mentioning Fagenbacher when discussing Mary, something that would have happened if their relationship had any impact whatsoever on Mary’s life in the long run. Hopefully, Mary’s Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage season 3 story can bring on a positive outcome regardless, leading to Mary putting herself first more often.
