Kruger’s popular Skukuza gate to close from next week

Translate

Visitors heading to Skukuza Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park are being warned of a temporary change to the camp’s entrance from next month.

The Skukuza Rest Camp Main Gate will close from Monday, 2 November 2026, to allow essential maintenance and repairs to the gate’s roof structure.

According to SANParks, the closure is expected to remain in place until early December, subject to weather conditions and any unforeseen circumstances.

Where will visitors enter Skukuza?

While the main gate is closed, visitors will use a temporary camp entrance from Hippo Circle Street.

This is the road leading towards the Skukuza Medical Doctor/Surgery. The temporary entrance will be accessed through AM Spa and Skukuza Safari Lodge.

Visitors heading to Skukuza during this period are advised to follow the directional signage and instructions from SANParks staff.

This will help ensure the safe and efficient movement of both vehicles and pedestrians around the temporary access point.

Why is the gate closing?

SANParks said the planned work forms part of its ongoing infrastructure management programme in the Kruger National Park.

The maintenance is intended to improve the safety, functionality and longevity of park facilities.

The work is therefore not expected to affect access to Skukuza for the entire period, with visitors instead being directed to the temporary entrance.

The maintenance project is expected to be completed by 4 December 2026. SANParks has cautioned, however, that the completion date is subject to weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances.

Visitors should therefore check for any updates before travelling to Skukuza during the maintenance period.
