INEC warns against fraudulent portal

Translate

The Independent National Electoral Commission has warned Nigerians against a fake website claiming that the nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently ongoing.

In a public notice issued on Saturday, INEC stated that the fraudulent website, pvc-inecnigeria-org.blogspot.com, falsely announced a new registration window running from September 28 to October 27, 2026.

The commission disowned the website in an advisory on Saturday and urged members of the public to avoid clicking on the link or submitting personal information through the platform.

“Members of the public are strongly advised not to click on the link or submit any personal information on the website, as doing so may expose them to the risk of having their sensitive personal data harvested or misused,” the advisory read.

Clarifying the status of the exercise, INEC emphasized that nationwide voter registration closed on July 26, 2026, adding that any report suggesting an ongoing online registration was false.

“The commission further wishes to clarify that the voter registration exercise closed on July 26, 2026. Any information suggesting that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently ongoing through the above-mentioned website is false,” it stated.

The fraudulent site reportedly offers a fake “Final Phase of Nationwide Online Voter Card Registration,” promising services such as details update, polling unit transfers, and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards.

It also falsely claims that voter registration and PVC delivery are free.

INEC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify all electoral information through its official communication channels to avoid falling victim to cyber scam platforms.
