Susan Sarandon and Hannah Einbinder Arrested at Netanyahu UN Speech Protest

Susan Sarandon and Hacks star Hannah Einbinder were arrested today, September 24th, amid protests against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech at the United Nations.

“Free Palestine! Get Netanyahu out of New York,” Einbinder, who is Jewish, yelled while being escorted from the protest, according to The Times.

Among the hundreds of demonstrators who attended the midtown Manhattan protest were boygenius members Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, Elliot Page, Cynthia Nixon, Saturday Night Live’s Sarah Sherman, and whistleblower Chelsea Manning.

“Netanyahu, you can’t hide, you are wanted for genocide,” the crowd reportedly chanted.

The Times also reported that delegates inside the UN shouted at Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, asking whether he was worried about the “possibility of a war crimes tribunal.”

Delegates from nearly every country walked out on Netanyahu’s speech, as you can see in a video below.

Earlier this year, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he would order the NYPD to arrest Netanyahu under a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in November 2024. However, Mamdani later realized he did not have the legal authority.

Mamdani did, however, post a video on social media this afternoon of himself planting an olive tree with Palestinian families from Gaza.

Sarandon’s arrest comes after she told the press at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month that movies have been “taken away recently” over her political beliefs.
