Australian batter Steve Smith was dismissed for 25 on Day 1 of the first Test against South Africa on Friday.

Smith, who is playing a Test in South Africa for the first time since serving a one-year ban for the Sandpaper-gate scandal, came to bat when Australia was under a bit of pressure at 24/2.

Smith, along with Marnus Labuschagne, did well to pull Australia out of trouble by stitching a 60-run partnership to take the visitor to 84/2.

However, both batters fell during either sides of the Lunch break. Labuschagne was the first to go, after being trapped LBW by Wiaan Mulder at the stroke of Lunch.

Once play resumed, Smith followed suit soon after as Marco Jansen took his outside edge, before Mulder completed a fine catch at gully.
