Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy 2026 showcases local culinary heritage

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy (WIG) 2026, organized by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Indonesia Gastronomy Network, will highlight the origins of various local ingredients and dishes.
Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said at a press conference on WIG 2026 in Jakarta on Tuesday that the event has a broader scope than last year's edition.
"While the previous WIG edition focused largely on introducing Indonesia's gourmet dining scene, this year's event has expanded its scope to present a more comprehensive spectrum of Indonesian gastronomy," the Minister said.
WIG 2026, themed "From Local Roots to Global Recognition," will feature a series of programs in cities such as Solo and Yogyakarta from September 26 to October 4, 2026.
The WIG 2026 opening ceremony will be held in Pura Mangkunegaran, Solo, on September 26, marking the start of various gastronomy related events that will continue through the end of December 2026.
The WIG 2026 series of events will showcase the origins of various dishes, local wisdom, traditions, and philosophies behind them, as well as contemporary gastronomic experiences.
Several activities of WIG 2026 include the launch of Indonesia Gourmet Guide and Indonesia Local Eateries in September 2026; the WIG Talks consist of five seminars and a book review on gastronomy; the Artisan Market at Grand Hotel De Djokja in Yogyakarta in October that will hold workshops and food tasting sessions; and the Chef Collaboration Program in October, that offer special gastronomic experiences.
WIG 2026 will also feature a Culinary Festival, run from October 7 to November 1, 2026, in collaboration with the Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI).
The event will offer various programs and promotions for culinary products in 32 shopping centers located in Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, South Tangerang, Bekasi, Surakarta, Sukoharjo, Bandung, Semarang, Magelang, Pontianak, Palembang, Denpasar, and Kendari.
The WIG 2026 activity series will also hold Indonesia Restaurant Months themed "Beyond the Plate" from October 7 to December 31, 2026.
The Chairperson of the Indonesia Gastronomy Network, Vita Datau, said WIG 2026 aimed not only to promote Indonesian cuisine, but also to build the gastronomy ecosystem and support the growth of the national gastronomy industry.
Additionally, French Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN Fabien Penone welcomed the synergy between WIG 2026 and Rendez-Vouz Rasa: France-Indonesia Gastronomy Week 2026.
The collaboration, says Febian, builds long term ties among the culinary traditions, professionals, and younger generations of both countries, while also contributing to the preservation and development of both countries' gastronomic heritage.
The event collaborations include the Six-Hands Dinner during the opening of WIG 2026 in Solo, which presents chefs Degan Septoadji, Wayan Ari Wibowo, and French chef Stephane Carrade, who has achieved two Michelin stars.
Besides, France and Indonesia will also collaborate on the cooking workshops and demonstrations at the Bali Tourism Polytechnic on September 25, 2026, and at the Medan Tourism Polytechnic on September 9, 2026.
