Danger Mouse won’t join CeeLo Green on Gnarls Barkley ‘reunion’ tour: “We want no misunderstandings”

Danger Mouse will not join CeeLo Green on Gnarls Barkley’s upcoming North American tour, despite the run initially being announced as the duo’s first tour in 18 years.

The ‘To Whom It Still Concerns’ tour was announced last week, initially advertised as featuring both Green and Danger Mouse, with the trek being described as Gnarls Barkley’s first run of live dates since 2008.

However, Green has now clarified in a social media post that Danger Mouse – real name Brian Burton – will not be taking part in the shows.

“Danger Mouse will not be performing,” he wrote. “We want no misunderstandings / disappointments etc.”

Green described Burton as his “producer” and “business partner”, adding that “whatever he decides for himself is his right” and that the pair support each other.

“He will be there in spirit,” Green added, while also telling fans that the upcoming run “probably won’t happen again”.

Updated promotional artwork for the North American dates now bills the concerts as “CeeLo Green performing Gnarls Barkley”.

The North American leg begins at The Masonic in San Francisco on November 5, with a second New York show at Irving Plaza on November 25 now added to the itinerary.

It is currently unclear whether Danger Mouse’s absence also extends to the four UK dates scheduled for December. As of today (September 25), the UK shows continue to be advertised simply as Gnarls Barkley.

The shows follow Gnarls Barkley’s return earlier this year with ‘Pictures’, their first new song in 18 years.

It preceded their third and final album ‘Atlanta’, which arrived in March and was described by Green and Danger Mouse as a “capstone to the Gnarls Barkley story”.

The record marked their first album together since 2008’s ‘The Odd Couple’, which followed their hugely successful 2006 debut ‘St. Elsewhere’.

Gnarls Barkley first broke through with ‘Crazy’, which became the first single to top the UK charts based solely on digital downloads and remained at Number One for nine consecutive weeks.
