Sources: Panthers RB Brooks set for surgery, out at least 6 weeks

Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks is expected to undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a core muscle injury and is set to miss at least six weeks, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Brooks will be placed on injured reserve, sources said.

The running back left Sunday's 34-3 win over the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth quarter with what the team called a groin injury. Brooks also dealt with a groin issue in the leadup to the season opener against the Chicago Bears.

Brooks, a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft, has played in only five career NFL games after undergoing back-to-back right ACL surgeries.

He had rushed nine times for 30 yards during the Panthers' first two games this season, with Chuba Hubbard taking the majority of the rushing workload (22 carries, 102 yards, 1 touchdown).
