Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox and Lockett Pundt to Perform Together at Big Ears 2027

Translate

Bradford Cox and Lockett Pundt are getting back on stage together. The Deerhunter bandmates have been added to the 2027 edition of Big Ears Festival for what appears to be their first joint performance since the band went dormant in 2019.

The appearance follows Cox’s own recent return from the wilderness. Last month, he revived Atlas Sound at Philadelphia’s Making Time ∞ festival for his first proper live set in seven years, performing an entirely new batch of songs. Pundt, meanwhile, has remained largely out of the public eye since Deerhunter’s last tour. The band’s most recent album, Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared?, arrived in 2019.

Cox and Pundt are among a new batch of additions to Big Ears 2027 that also includes The Roots, Shabaka, Sheherazaad, Zoh Amba, Rosali, and Peter Stampfel’s new group, The Atomic Meta-Pagans. Shabaka will perform alongside William Parker and Hamid Drake as one of several ensembles he’ll appear with during the weekend.

Big Ears returns to downtown Knoxville, Tennessee, from April 1st through 4th, 2027. The previously announced lineup spans more than 150 artists and includes Jeff Tweedy, Weyes Blood, Courtney Barnett, Jim James, Thundercat, Wednesday, Oneohtrix Point Never, Mount Eerie, and many more.

Four-day passes for Big Ears 2027 are on sale now, with early-bird tickets already sold out. Single-day passes are still to come; visit Big Ears’ website for tickets and more details.
