Sixteen people were injured after a passenger truck overturned along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in Calamba, Laguna, while separate road accidents in Batangas and Aklan involved a child who nearly got hit by vehicles and a family injured in a collision.
According to a report by Jamie Santos on "24 Oras" Weekend on Saturday, the passenger truck lost control after one of its tires burst, causing it to hit a road barrier and overturn.
A passenger fell from the vehicle during the incident, according to the SLEX Highway Patrol Group.
The 16 injured included the driver and passengers, all employees of a construction firm. One of the victims remained in the intensive care unit after undergoing surgery to have a metal implant inserted in the hip.
The construction company would shoulder the victims' hospital expenses, the report said.
Meanwhile, in San Juan, Batangas, closed-circuit television footage captured a child leaving their residential compound and running toward the middle of the road.
The child nearly got hit by a tricycle, which had a 10-wheeler truck following behind it. A barangay official on duty managed to catch up with the child, while the tricycle driver was able to avoid hitting the child.
The child's mother said she did not realize that the child had left their home. The child was unharmed.
In Makato, Aklan, a couple and their two minor children were injured when their tricycle collided with a truck at an intersection.
The family members were thrown onto the road by the impact, while the truck driver and his passenger were unharmed.
The truck driver admitted to police that he failed to apply the brakes upon reaching the intersection.
The victims later agreed to settle the matter with the truck driver and decided not to file a case against him.— MCG, GMA News
