T-Mobile Adds 5 Gig Plan to Its Fiber Home Internet Lineup

Translate

Is your home internet fast enough? That’s a trick question, because who doesn’t want faster internet? The real question is, how much are you willing to pay for more speed?

T-Mobile’s answer is $90 a month for its new Fiber 5 Gig service, which includes a 10-year price guarantee for the premium plan. (That amount is based on AutoPay billing, with taxes and fees added on top.)

Kicking off Nov. 3, the Fiber 5 Gig plan includes equal download and upload speeds, unlimited data and a mesh Wi-Fi extender, if requested, to help spread the signal throughout a household.

The next closest plan in T-Mobile’s lineup is the Fiber 2 Gig plan for $70. To compare with CNET’s top pick for Fiber ISPs, Google Fiber’s 3 Gig Home plan costs $100 a month.

T-Mobile is also running a limited-time promotion that offers two months free via two bill credits plus $300 in virtual prepaid cards.

The 5 Gig plan is the only T-Mobile Fiber plan with a price guarantee. It’s also a somewhat audacious addition, given that the company recently settled with the New York Attorney General’s Office over a dispute about price guarantees for some of its old 4G T-Mobile One plans from almost a decade ago. The fine print for this guarantee excludes “taxes & fees, voluntary equipment or speed upgrades, select limited-time promotions, per-use charges, third-party services and network management practices.”
