Dozens of police squads are on the scene of a shooting that injured several people, including two police officers, a few blocks away from the Minneapolis Convention Center late Wednesday afternoon.

The Minneapolis Police Department says the shooting happened in the area of 15 East Grant Street.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area from 12th Street to Franklin Avenue and Hennepin Avenue to Third Avenue South.

"My public safety team is responding to a shooting that took place downtown Minneapolis this afternoon. State officials are on the ground to support local law enforcement and we will share more information as it becomes available," Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said.
