KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 — Universiti Malaya (UM), through its Academy of Malay Studies (APM), is organising a Typewriter Exhibition of a diverse collection as an effort to appreciate the historical heritage and evolution of writing and communication technology.
In a statement today, UM said the exhibition, held from September 1 to October 31 at the Malay Ethnographic Museum, features more than 50 typewriters from museums, galleries, libraries and local collectors.
According to the statement, the exhibition showcases a variety of typewriter designs, brands and models, as well as several special segments, including the Figure Collection, Multiscript Typewriters and Jawi Typewriter Heritage.
“The exhibition is open to all visitors and aims to provide the public with an opportunity to appreciate the history and contribution of typewriters to the development of writing, language, administration and communication,” the statement said.
UM said visitors can also take part in the Independence-themed Poetry Writing Competition using typewriters specially provided at the exhibition space, with entries closing on October 6. — Bernama
