Biohazard is a 20-minute film that adapts moments from 2017’s Resident Evil 7.
“Ethan Winters, while searching for his missing wife, finds himself trapped by the Baker family – a deadly, unstoppable family driven to violence under the influence of a mysterious infection,” reads the logline (via IGN). “Biohazard began as a passion project driven by a desire to bring the isolated, intense, gripping story of Resident Evil 7 into live-action.
As well as writing and directing the film, Riggs stars as Winters while his former The Walking Dead colleague Jason Douglas plays Jack, the patriarch of the Baker family. Mary Rachel Quinn, Eugenie Bondurant, Johnathan O’Neil and Sam Coyles also star while horror legend and The Walking Dead producer Greg Nicotero provided SFX equipment for the production.

“One of the big reasons I even made this is, you know, I was just dying to see a good, true-to-the-game live-action adaptation of Resident Evil,” Riggs said in an interview with IGN. “I love being on set and collaborating with cool people, and that’s all it is at the end of the day. If I can’t be on set doing more films or TV shows, then I’ll just make it myself.”
He went on to say he’d love to work with Zach Cregger on a future Resident Evil project. “If [Cregger] wants to continue in the universe, I’m all for it. Listen, my phone is open. Hit my line!”
Biohazard is out tomorrow (Wednesday October 14)
Released last month, Cregger’s Resident Evil adaptation has become the highest-rated video game movie of all time despite backlash from some gaming fans about him telling an original story within the zombie universe.
“My only hope is that they’ll see the movie regardless of their skepticism [and] they will recognise all of the love for the games that are in this movie,” said Cregger. “This is not me just telling a story and slapping Resident Evil on it so I can get a budget. This is me telling a Resident Evil story.”
