Dizon: Romualdez’s arrest proof of Marcos’ promise

MANILA, Philippines — The arrest of former House Speaker and presidential cousin Martin Romualdez is proof that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is keeping his promise to hold accountable those involved in the flood control mess, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said on Tuesday.

Romualdez is in detention at the New Quezon City Jail for plunder in relation to his alleged collection if P7 billion in kickbacks from government projects from 2022 to 2025.

“This is proof that the president and the Ombudsman’s vow last year to follow where the evidence leads, regardless of who is involved, even if it’s his relative, is really true,” Dizon told the media

He continued: “What’s important is that our countrymen could see that even if it took a while, we really followed the evidence even if it led us to the president’s first cousin. And Speaker Romualdez is really close to the president.”

Asked whether Romualdez is the “biggest catch” in the anomalous flood control projects fiasco, Dizon said the former speaker is really the largest fish at the moment.

But he noted that more “big fish” would be caught as investigations continue.

“Like the Ombudsman said, there’s more “big fish” that’ll be charged next so let’s just wait,” Dizon shared. /das
