Another woman arrested for alleged ‘brutal abuse’ of her 7-year-old daughter.

Security operatives in Anambra State have arrested a woman, Ogechi Ofoma, who brutally assaulted her seven-year-old daughter with a hot knife in the state.

The police spokesperson in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

This latest incident occurred days after another woman, Anulika Onyeanusia, was arrested in the state for allegedly using sex toys on her eight-year-old daughter as well as circulating the child’s pornographic video.

Police receive report of fresh case

Mr Ikenga, a superintendent of police, said the state police command received a fresh report on 13 September that Mrs Ofoma brutally abused her daughter, inflicting severe bodily injuries on the minor.

The spokesperson said the incident occurred in Obosi, a community in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

“The prompt intervention of security personnel from the Ibollo Community, Awada-Obosi, and concerned residents led to the child’s rescue and the arrest of her mother, Mrs Ogechi Ofoma, 32,” he said.

“Preliminary information indicates that the child was allegedly subjected to severe physical abuse, including injuries reportedly inflicted with a hot knife.”

Mr Ikenga said the police command in the state has condemned the incident and vowed to ensure that those responsible were prosecuted.

The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, has commenced collaboration with the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Chinyere Onyekesi.

He explained that the collaboration with the ministry was to ensure that the victim received urgent and appropriate medical care, protection, and all necessary welfare support.

Mr Ikenga said the police in the state have praised the vigilance, courage, and public-spirited intervention of the Ibollo Community security personnel and residents whose swift action helped save the child from further harm.

He added that the intervention also enabled the immediate commencement of police action.

The spokesperson said the police command has assured the public that the investigation would be “thorough, professional, and uncompromising.”

“The welfare, safety, and best interests of the child remain paramount, and the command will continue to work with relevant agencies to protect vulnerable persons and ensure accountability in accordance with the law,’’ he stated.
