TUMPAT, Oct 18 — The family of Norhazwani Ibrahim, a 35-year-old border agency officer allegedly murdered by her husband in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, has refused to allow his parents and relatives to attend her funeral here, saying they cannot accept what he is accused of doing.
The victim’s elder sister, Marlina, 46, told Utusan Malaysia that the family had also barred the husband’s relatives from visiting the deceased before her burial.
“We really cannot accept it if her in-laws or the husband’s family come.
“I personally would not allow them to attend the funeral or the burial,” she was quoted as saying.
Marlina said the family was particularly hurt that none of the husband’s relatives had contacted them last night to ask about the welfare of the couple’s two young daughters, aged six and five, following their mother’s death.
Marlina said she was still struggling to come to terms with the death of her youngest sister, Norhazwani, who was the youngest of nine siblings.
She recalled speaking to Norhazwani over the phone last Tuesday, just two days before she was allegedly killed.
“How could he bring himself to kill his own wife?” Marlina asked, expressing regret that she had not managed to see her sister during her last visit to their Kelantan hometown on October 5.
Marlina said she had contacted Norhazwani a few days later to invite her for a meal, but her sister told her she had already returned to Nilai.
Norhazwani had planned to visit the family again in December, Marlina said.
The officer, who worked for the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency, was buried at Tanjong Cemetery in Pengkalan Kubor at about 2am today.
