Woody Harrelson Walked in on Matthew McConaughey (with His Pants Down) Embracing Jimmy Kimmel

Jimmy Kimmel found himself in an awkward bathroom encounter with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson at the 2026 Emmys. McConaughey and Harrelson, who star together in the new Apple TV series Brothers, appeared at this month’s awards ceremony to present the winner of Outstanding Comedy Series. Before that moment, however, the pair crossed paths with Kimmel in the bathroom after he had stepped away from the show following the In Memoriam segment, which honored his longtime friend and bandleader Cleto Escobedo III. Kimmel recounted the moment during Monday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where Harrelson appeared as a guest:

Kimmel: “I saw you at the Emmys last week. And I want to share this story because I’m not sure if you even know the whole story because of what happened.

“So, during the In Memoriam montage, my friend Cleto, who passed away, was in the montage and I started getting choked up. And I went to the bathroom, and I’m washing my hands. I go to the bathroom, washing my hands, and I notice next to me—I mean, right next to me—is Matthew McConaughey. He’s at the urinal, and I’m washing my hands, and I say, ‘Hey.’

“And he sees that I’m upset, and he’s like, ‘Hey, you okay?’ And I told him what happened. And he, again, is at the urinal, and he turns to me and he gives me a very nice hug. He hugs me very warmly, and I am hugging him for a little while, and I said, ‘Is your penis out?’

“And he said, ‘Yes, it is. Yes, it is.’ And he says, ‘In fact, I’m going to rub it up against you a little bit.’ And at that moment, you came out of the stall and witnessed this happening!

“Did he explain our interaction, or were you just left with that in your head?”

Harrelson: “Well, I thought, ‘Okay, I never try to grade or to critique what other people are doing, and I figured you guys are… whatever your thing is.’ I didn’t want to be the guy to say, ‘No, not in the restroom at the Emmys!’

“But I did hear you say that, and then that’s why afterwards we were out in the hall and we all had a group hug.”
