The Australian Grand Prix, along with the Moto 3 and Moto 2 races were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions on Sunday.

Championship leader Marc Marquez had clinched pole for the main race on Saturday, but will now not get the opportunity to extend his lead over rival Jorge Martin.

Organisers pulled the plug despite a sell-out crowd with persistent rain and poor visibility making racing unsafe.

“Limited visibility has resulted in the cancellation of the Australian MotoGP,” organisers said.

It was a bitter end to nearly three decades of the sport at the waterfront circuit two hours from Melbourne, with the Australian race moving to a city-centre street circuit at Adelaide next year.

Last year, Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez won the Australian Grand Prix, while Fabio di Giannantino and Marco Bezzecchi finished second and third respectively.

“Limited visibility has resulted in the cancellation of the Australian MotoGP,” organisers said.
