Bowen Yang Boosts ‘Oh, Mary!’, Reece Weaver Cheers ‘Chicago’ And ‘Titanique’ Sails Off On High Note – Broadway Box Office

Broadway enjoyed a crisp upturn last week as autumn peeked around the corner, with a few shows benefiting from popular new cast members and one production seeing a final-week boost from last-chancers.

In the former category were Oh, Mary!, a sell-out with newly arrived Bowen Yang in the lead, for a big gross of $1,517,710, and Chicago, riding high in its second week with Reece Weaver – breakout star of the Netflix series America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders – as the latest Roxie Hart. The long-running musical revival filled all available seats for a gross of $995,932.

Another sell-out was a rejuvenated Buena Vista Social Club, grossing $987,024 and no doubt reaping the benefits of having popular former New York Met José “Candelita” Iglesias starring as the Narrator for a limited run until November 15. (Former Yankee and guitarist Bernie Williams joins the show’s band on October 22.)

Exiting the Broadway stage last week was Titanique, playing its final show on September 20, with attendance hitting the 99% of capacity mark for a weekly, best-ever gross of $1,347,414. That’s a $314,688 over the previous week’s take.

In its second week of previews at the Friedman, School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play, was at 99% of capacity. The Manhattan Theatre Club’s production of the Jocelyn Bioh play took in $287,754 for seven previews, up $17,293 over the previous week. Opening night is September 28.

In addition to Buena Vista, Chicago and Oh, Mary!, sell-outs for the week included Hamilton ($2,618,710), Just In Time ($709,471), Paranormal Activity ($785,425, down $31,223 due to a largely comped gala performance on Tuesday) and Wicked ($1,305,153). Other shows coming in just below sell-out (but with attendance at 95% of capacity or more) were Aladdin ($1,062,384), Hadestown ($921,920), MJ ($1,622,620), Operation Mincemeat ($704,027), Schmigadoon! ($1,035,886), The Book of Mormon ($954,002), The Lion King ($1,762,839) and The Rocky Horror Show ($820,623).

Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York), which last week announced a November 29 closing date, saw a nice bump of $121,211 over the previous week for a gross of $640,447.

The five top earners for the week were Hamilton, The Lion King, MJ, Oh, Mary! and Titanique. Hamilton once again had the top average ticket price ($245.75) with Oh, Mary! coming in second with $212.80 (that’s $52.55 higher that the previous week). The overall average for the 26 shows was $114.69.

In all, the 26 productions on Broadway grossed a total $27,070,361 for the week ending September 20, a jump of 8% over the previous week. Attendance was 236,037, up 5%.

In the 17th week of the 2026-27 season, Broadway has grossed season-to-date $541,387,201, down about 6% from last year at this time, with total attendance of 4,471,297 down 2% year-to-year.
