SUNGAI PETANI, Oct 4 — The body of an elderly man who went missing after the vehicle he was driving skidded off the road and fell into a river at Jalan Lubuk Segintah-Lubuk Kawah here was found at 9.15am today.

Kuala Muda police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said the body of Mat Yusof Hashim, 77, was found between 50 and 100 metres from where his vehicle was located in the river.

“The victim was fully clothed when found. His body was sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for a post-mortem,” he said in a statement today.

Earlier, it was reported that the victim’s vehicle had been recovered from the river, but no body was found after it was pulled ashore.

Hanyan also thanked members of the public, particularly the owner of a video showing the incident, for promptly alerting police. — Bernama
