Anwar directs stronger enforcement to curb profiteering nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed that inter-agency coordination be strengthened to ensure more effective enforcement in controlling the prices of essential goods and curbing profiteering nationwide.

Anwar said he issued the directive during the National Action Council on Cost of Living (NACCOL) Meeting No. 2/2026, which he chaired on Tuesday.

He said the meeting focused on proposed initiatives and immediate measures to alleviate the cost-of-living burden on the people under the 2027 Budget.

"I also reviewed the progress of enforcement by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living in controlling the prices of essential goods and combating profiteering across the country," he said in a Facebook post.

Anwar added that the government would continue to monitor global geopolitical developments and their impact on the prices and supply of basic necessities, to ensure any pressure on the people's cost of living is addressed promptly and effectively.
