Kenya, IFAD Sign $2.08mn deal to help farmers use climate data to improve productivity

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 29 – Kenya and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have renewed their commitment to cooperation in agricultural transformation following the signing of a 2.08 million US dollar climate resilience grant.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi signed the Climate Smart Agribusiness Partnerships for Resilience (CSAPR) grant agreement during a courtesy call by IFAD’s new Country Director, Matteo Marchisio.
The funding, provided by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation through IFAD, will complement the Integrated Natural Resources Management Programme (INReMP).
The initiative will integrate climate information systems into agricultural value chains to help farmers and agribusinesses anticipate and manage climate-related risks.
The programme is also expected to support improved agricultural productivity by enabling producers to incorporate climate information into their farming and business decisions.
Mbadi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deepening cooperation with IFAD, while Marchisio pledged to strengthen the longstanding partnership in support of Kenya’s agricultural sector and rural communities.
