Makkah Grand Mosque caller to prayer dies

Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Hamza Al-Madani, the muezzin of the Makkah Grand Mosque, Masjid Al Haram, has died.

His death was announced early Monday via the official X handle of ‘Inside the Haramain,’ an account noted for covering the two holy mosques.

Ibrahim Al-Madani made his final Adhan (call to prayer) on Monday.

Inside the Haramain said in an X post that his final Adhan at Masjid Al-Haram was on 11 Rabi Al-Awwal 1448.

“It is with great sadness we share the news of the death of the Muadhin of Masjid Al Haram, Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani,” the tweet read.

“The final Adhan raised by Sheikh Ibrahim Al Madani in Masjid Al Haram on 11 Rabi Al Awwal 1448.”

Ibrahim Al Madani was formally appointed in 1439 AH (2017–2018).

The funeral prayer for the late muezzin will be held after the ‘Asr prayer on Monday at Masjid Al-Haram. He will then be laid to rest in Al-Mu‘alla Cemetery.

“We ask Allah to envelop him in His vast mercy, raise his rank among the rightly guided, and reward him with the best of rewards for his service in calling the Adhan at the Sacred House of Allah,” the tweet read.

According to reports about his life, Ibrahim Al-Madani was born in Madinah in 1397 AH (1976).

Raised in a religious household, his paternal grandfather was a memoriser of the Qur’an, and he influenced Ibrahim Al-Madani from an early age.

At the age of 15, Ibrahim Al-Madani was first associated with the Adhan role at a neighbourhood mosque in Madinah. Alongside three other neighbours, he continued serving as a muezzin on rotation until he graduated from college.

He later stopped for a period due to teaching commitments outside Madinah, the report stated.

In 1428 AH (2007–2008), he was invited to resume calling the Adhan at Masjid Al-Maddah, where he continued until he was formally appointed to become a muezzin of Masjid Al Haram in Makkah in 1439 AH (2017–2018).

Ibrahim Al-Madani was deeply influenced by the Madinan school and style of the Adhan, having grown up in Madinah.

He also learned the distinctive Makkan style of Adhan during visits to Makkah with his father, where he met Sheikh Abdul Latif Mulla, a former muezzin of Masjid Al-Haram and a friend of his grandfather.

Ibrahim Al-Madani held an academic qualification in Qur’anic Studies.
