Plateau gov assures corps members of safety
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has assured corps members of their safety and well-being as they serve their fatherland in the state.
Mutfwang gave the assurance on Friday at the official opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch “C” Stream I corps members’ orientation exercise in Jos.
The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Prince Miaphen, said the government would continue to work closely with relevant security agencies to safeguard peace and stability.
“Let me assure you that your safety and well-being are top priorities for my administration.
“We will continue to work closely with all relevant security agencies to safeguard peace and stability throughout the state,” he said.
Mutfwang urged the corps members to remain vigilant, obey security guidelines and maintain close communication with their employers, NYSC officials and relevant security authorities.
“The state government will continue to provide the necessary support within its mandate to ensure that you are able to serve your fatherland with confidence and assured safety,” he said.
He urged the corps members to leverage the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to acquire practical skills for self-reliance and future opportunities.
He said the realities of today’s world required creativity, adaptability and entrepreneurial thinking, urging the corps members to acquire skills that would enhance their employability.
The governor described the corps members as ambassadors of unity, symbols of national integration and catalysts for social and economic progress.
He said the NYSC scheme remained a vital tool for fostering national unity and development.
Mutfwang tasked the newly sworn-in corps members to pay attention to all the course contents during the orientation exercise and adhere to the bylaws of the scheme.
He urged them to imbibe discipline, patriotism, self-reliance and leadership skills to prepare them for the challenges of the service year and beyond.
“Uphold the core values of discipline, patriotism and selfless service and perform your duties with diligence,” he said.
The governor urged the corps members to learn and appreciate the local language, culture and traditions of their host communities to enhance their integration.
He also urged them to respect the customs and values of their host communities, saying this would help them build meaningful relationships and contribute positively to their development.
Earlier, Mr Jonathan Yavala, Plateau Coordinator of NYSC, urged the newly sworn-in corps members to participate fully in all camp activities.
Yavala said participation in the activities would prepare them for the rigours of the service year and life beyond it.
He commended the Plateau Government for its unflinching support for the NYSC scheme.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 3,003 corps members had been registered for the orientation exercise. (NAN)
