It's been a pretty great year for Pokémon fans so far. The beloved mega-franchise of games, trading cards, manga, anime, pajamas, and pretty much everything you can imagine is celebrating 30th anniversary, marking three decades since Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green, were released in Japan, and changed the world. And in the middle of this, we've also been treated to our first look at the next major entry, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, which is set to arrive some time in 2027.
This will be the first mainline entry since 2025's Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and will kickstart Gen 10, introducing a new tropical archipelago to explore complete with multiple underwater areas, adorable Starter 'mon, and a rumored 300+ new additions to the Pokédex. That's all still to come, though. In the meantime, Pokémon is paying tribute to one of the most popular 'Mon of all: Eevee.
Introduced during the original Pokémon games, Eevee has remained a fan favorite for the past 30 years. Not only is their standard form adorable, but they can transform into different types of Pokémon. The original games had Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon, before Gold & Silver added Espeon and Umbreon. Leafeon, Glaceon, and Sylveon came later. Will Winds & Waves give us our first new Eevee in years? We don't know for sure yet, but before then, we have another treat for Eevee fans.
As originally shared over on Poké Beach, we can see the latest Eevee and their small army of current evolutions in figure form courtesy of Pokémon China. Over on r/PokeInvesting, fans seemed pretty excited about the newest TCG-inspired product, with one user sharing, "This has been my favorite new product to watch from the sidelines. I wonder what the secret rare will be."
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any official release date info at this stage, but if you're a fan of lil' Eevee and its evolutions, you'll definitely want to keep a closer eye on this line.
As far as Pokémon Winds & Waves is concerned, we're unlikely to see anything more from the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive until next year now, but I'd bet we'll get a good look at the game in action on Pokémon day in February 2027. I'm also hoping we finally get a brand-new Eeveelution given how many types there still are we have yet to see. A Dragon Eevee, perhaps? Or A Ghost Eevee? There's plenty of potential there.
As Pokémon's 30th anniversary continues, the spotlight is on the Trading Card Game right now. There's been a huge wave of new releases designed to pay tribute to three decades of the popular game, although it's worth noting scalpers have been doing everything they can to ruin what should be an exciting time. The good news is The Pokémon Company is at least attempting to take some kind of official action against scalpers, but we'll have to wait and see if they can ever truly be defeated.
