Prado rams into electric pole after high-speed police chase in Kisumu

NAIROBI,Kenya Oct 28 – A black Toyota Prado rammed into an electric pole in Kisumu after a high-speed chase with detectives, bringing a suspected robbery getaway to an abrupt end and leading to the arrest of two men.

The vehicle, registration number KDX 642Y, crashed near Oile Park after detectives shot at its tyres when the driver ignored orders to stop, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The pursuit began after a woman reported that she and her friends had been robbed of five mobile phones by people travelling in a black Toyota Prado.

Acting on intelligence linking the vehicle to the robbery, detectives from Kisumu Central launched a search and eventually traced it to the town.

However, the driver allegedly defied police orders to pull over and sped off, triggering a chase through the town.

Detectives pursued the vehicle before opening fire on its tyres, puncturing them and causing the driver to lose control. The Prado veered off the road and struck an electric pole, damaging its front-right side.

Two men, identified as William Onyango Odhiambo and Felix Owino Onyango, were arrested as they attempted to flee from the wrecked vehicle.

A subsequent search of the Prado yielded a black pistol and three mobile phones, which were seized as exhibits as investigators probed the suspects’ possible involvement in a series of robberies in Kisumu and its environs.

The DCI said the two suspects remained in custody as they underwent processing ahead of their expected arraignment in court.

Investigations are ongoing to establish whether the suspects were linked to other robbery incidents, including those reported across the wider region.

The arrests come amid efforts by detectives to dismantle criminal networks and recover property linked to reported robberies.
