It's never too early to get into the Christmas spirit, and cinemas are proving it, with Merry Christmas Aubrey Flint now showing across the UK.

Described as a "classic heartfelt story", the film, directed by Jack Spring, is packed to the brim with star power, with Aubrey Flint himself played by Game of Thrones' favourite John Bradley, alongside undisputed British acting royalty, Celia Imrie and Richard E. Grant.

The cast is rounded out with other industry heavyweights including Ghosts' Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Ludwig's Karl Pilkington, Bridgerton's Adjoa Andoh and Paddington star Jim Broadbent.

The titular Aubrey Flint is a model soldier painter who, not unlike a number of festive film protagonists, absolutely despises Christmas after a tragic incident that occurred when he was 7 years old.

30 years on, Aubrey prefers to spend all of his time alone, and is naturally less than impressed when he's sentenced to community service at a run-down retirement home.

Although deeply reluctant, Aubrey eventually agrees to direct to the residents' production of A Christmas Carol, though when the rehearsals descend into sheer chaos, it risks not just the production, but the future of the entire home.

At the London gala screening of the movie, star Imrie told Digital Spy: "The thing is, Charles Dickens knew what he was talking about, it's an everlasting story, and it's marvellous that it's been given a modern twist, but I did find it very moving, actually.

"I'm very thrilled to be part of it."

Director Spring also spoke on how the movie came to be, while also heaping praise on the star-studded cast.

"We came up with the idea for this movie in 2018, so you're spending a lot of time with the cast in your mind, who could play these characters, and to land on a cast that we did, never in a million years did I think we'd be here with some of these guys tonight,

"Not only their names, but how good they are in the film, how much they lend to it, how much they gave me as director, how much I learned off them as well.

"They were diamonds, they're 90% of the way there by the time I get my hands on them. They don't really need a director to be honest, so I just feel immensely blessed and feel a better director having worked with them as well."
