Government reconstitutes CBFC board: Preity Zinta, Roopali Ganguly, Pallavi Joshi, Pankaj Tripathi among 18 members

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry on Wednesday announced the reconstitution of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), with an 18-member board featuring several well-known names from the film and entertainment industry. The new panel includes actors Preity Zinta, Suniel Shetty, Roopali Ganguly, Pallavi Joshi,

Pankaj Tripathi

and Prosenjit Chatterjee, among others. The board has been reconstituted under the powers conferred by the Cinematograph Act for a period of three years or until further orders. The move comes after a considerable gap, with the CBFC’s previous board having been formally reconstituted in August 2017. The board had also held its first meeting in six years earlier this month, where members discussed issues related to film certification and the functioning of Revising Committees.Other members of the newly constituted CBFC include Vinod Anupam, Manoj Joshi, Abhishek Jain, Ricky Kej, Priyadarshan, Hansraj Hans, Supriya Yarlagadda, Yatindra Mishra, Nila Madhab Panda, Nishigandha Wad, Waman Kendre and Ramesh Patange. The reconstituted board will function under chairperson Shashi Shekhar Vempati, who heads the statutory film-certification body under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The CBFC is responsible for certifying films for public exhibition in India under the Cinematograph Act.Meanwhile, the CBFC also addressed concerns surrounding the song ‘Shoorveer’ from ‘Mirzapur - The Movie’. In a separate post, the board said, "Over the last few days several concerns were received over the song ‘Shoorveer’ in film “Mirzapur - The Movie”. Excel Entertainment Private Limited have since informed CBFC that they will voluntarily replace the song ‘Shoorveer’ from the relevant sequence pending formalities.
