Asian Games 2026: Neeru-Chenai win India’s first-ever gold in trap mixed team

India’s Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Chenai bagged the gold medal in the trap mixed team event at the ongoing Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Wednesday.
The duo finished third with a total of 34, shattering the Asian Record of 30 set by Qatar earlier this year. Qatar clinched silver with 32, while China bagged bronze with 23.
This was Neeru’s second gold of the Games, a day after she created history by becoming the first Indian to win gold in the trap women’s individual event.
Meanwhile, it was Chenai’s third Asian Games medal after he bagged the trap men’s team gold and trap individual bronze in Hangzhou 2022.
Earlier in the day, Neeru and Chenai finished fourth in qualification with a score of 136 and barely made the cut for the four-team medal round before winning the top prize.
But it wasn’t the ideal start from individual gold medallist in Neeru. She missed three of her first five shots, while Chenai missed one to keep India’s tally six after the first series.
However, the Indian duo came back tremendously to shoot the next two series perfectly and have a two-point lead over the Qataris in the gold-medal round. While Neeru and Chenai did miss one shot each in the final series, a new Asian Record and the gold was already in the bag for the Indians.
