Watch: Parisians wake up to protest damage and looted shops

Translate

Violence broke out across France on Saturday during the latest day of demonstrations against conditions in schools and the cost of living.

At least 1,200 people were arrested during what the French government described as an "escalation in violence", as shopfronts were smashed and stores looted.

For shop owners, this morning marks the start of clean-up efforts, with some reporting damages and stolen goods amount to €100,000 (£85,000).

The BBC's James Waterhouse reports from the streets of Paris outside damaged buildings.
