After Silo Season 3, Apple TV Already Has A Highly Ambitious Fix For Sci-Fi Fans

Silo season 3 has officially ended its run on Apple TV with a memorable conclusion. It has also been confirmed that season 4 will premiere on Apple TV on July 9, 2027. However, while waiting for its return, sci-fi fans already have the perfect series to binge on. Based on Blake Crouch's book of the same name, Apple TV's Dark Matter season 2 is currently streaming and is already two episodes in.
Although Dark Matter remains relatively obscure compared to most other mainstream sci-fi offerings on Apple TV, it is easily among the streaming service's most ambitious shows. Its narrative foundation rests on the exploration of parallel worlds in a wide multiverse. While it does seem reminiscent of many other shows and movies, like Everything Everywhere All At Once, it finds its distinct voice through its characters.
Interestingly, in season 1, Dark Matter exhausted its source material. Despite this, it has now returned for another season, which should have been a risky endeavor. Surprisingly, though, it seems like Dark Matter is all set to get better in season 2. After just two episodes, it already seems more ambitious and high-stakes than season 1.
Like Silo, Dark Matter Is Seemingly Getting Better With Season 2
Perhaps one of the biggest issues with Dark Matter season 1 was its pace. It started a little too slow and came off as another run-of-the-mill multiverse sci-fi series in its early chapters. The show only started finding its feet after a few episodes before it gained incredible momentum and delivered some memorable plot twists towards the end.
Fortunately, Dark Matter season 2 does not tread the same path. Instead of letting viewers settle into its drama and the portrayal of mind-boggling parallel universe doppelgängers, Dark Matter season 2 begins with a shocking sequence. It shows how law enforcement has found multiple dead bodies of the same person in one universe.
As it progresses, its central Dessen family struggles to find its place in the larger multiverse as they keep encountering trouble in even some of the safest worlds. This marks the inception of another chaotic journey for the main characters as they set out on another journey to look for a world they can call home.
While walking through their struggles, Dark Matter also shows how other side characters in its roster are set to explore the multiverse again. While only time will tell how this season will unfold, Dark Matter already seems as ambitious as some of the most twisty and compelling sci-fi shows, like Dark, 12 Monkeys, and Sense8.
Dark Matter's Biggest Strength Is Its Showrunner
Many sci-fi and fantasy shows end up going off the rails once they run out of source material content and start adopting original story beats. Game of Thrones is perhaps one of the best examples of this phenomenon. Dark Matter, however, benefits from the fact that its source material's author, Blake Crouch, also serves as its showrunner.
As season 2's first two episodes have established, Crouch is well-versed in his original story's tone and appeal. He knows exactly what viewers and readers want from this new chapter of his fictional exploration of multiversal possibilities. Owing to this, instead of completely losing sight of everything that made it so successful in the past, Dark Matter is seemingly getting better.
With so much going in Dark Matter's favor, it seems to have the potential to rise up in the ranks and find its place among Apple TV's greatest sci-fi offerings. While it is yet to match Silo's acclaim and commercial success, it is on the right path to become another defining sci-fi series for Apple TV.
